OK, so there is this national radio station www.familyradio.com who is predicting the end of the world is May 21st, 2011 and that “The Bible guarantees it”. Folks, that’s only 37 days left to get ready for the apocalypse! Unless you’re one of those lucky few who get “raptured” into heaven before Jesus comes to kill everyone who doesn’t believe the right stuff. That’s what I’m hoping for. I’m going to be standing on my rooftop in a white toga, looking toward the Eastern sky, waiting for Jesus to suck me into the sky with His cosmic vacuum, so that He can get on with the all the destruction and mayhem.
Anyhow, Family Radio is based out of Oakland, California and has a station is virtually every U.S. state. I am currently trying to get them to sign a contract to release all of their assets to me on May 22nd, but I haven’t heard back from them yet. I guess they’re too busy getting ready for the end of world!? Unfortunately for most cities, you do not have a Family Radio station and will be totally unprepared for the end of the world (May 21). Unless you happen to run across one of the “project caravan” buses like in the video below…
The sad part about this is that some elderly lady somewhere is emptying her life savings and giving it to this radio station to help them proclaim that “the end is near.” Christian PR in this country can’t get any worse, so don’t be afraid that people will think less of Christians because of this. They already do, and that’s probably why they’re not one.
This is (part of) why biblical hermeneutics (study of interpretation theory) and good eschatology (teaching on ‘end things’) is important for the church. I’ve had it up to my eyeballs with futurist, sensationalist, destruction-based, dispensationalist, end-time hype.
So, the moral of the story here is, be Jesus’ PR to the world and don’t buy into anybodies crazy end-of-the-world scenarios. God isn’t destroying the world, He’s making it new and starts with you! (Sorry, I could avoid the rhyming Christainese cliché!)
Until next time… Spread the Good Word. Judgment Day is May 21, 2011!
